LA GRANDE OBUS - SALUT
LA GRANDE OBUS is a tribute to the rich traditions
and authentic architecture of Cameroon, the artist’s homeland.

The name "Obus" refers to the traditional Cameroonian
dwellings where people gather to share stories.

At the heart of the masterpiece lies a central piece titled “Salut,”
symbolizing a personal greeting and a profound gesture of respect.

For Jesse Nelson, the essence of the Salut is a powerful statement:
"Here I am; this is my greeting and my introduction to the world of art."

The story of the Obus is further told through a bronze frame
that surrounds the Salut. Its various branches symbolize
the many life paths Nelson has traversed since his birth in
Cameroon, while also representing the loving connections
between family and friends.

Having experienced a different form of friendship in Africa
than in the Western world, Jesse describes the bond
with his African peers as brotherly love.
In Africa, those you meet are not merely acquaintances;
they are embraced as brothers and sisters.

On the inner side of the shields, new stories are shared,
inviting the viewer to further explore the depth and richness of African culture.
