UCULU
Uculu is a bronze chess masterpiece by artist Jesse Nelson, in which play and sculpture merge into a ritual of harmony. The board rests on a tripod-shaped bronze base, inspired by the mythical avian form Ukulu—a symbol of strength and balance.
The chess pieces, modeled after African animals, together form the 'dance of the animals,' a poetic representation of wisdom, courage, and transformation. With this work, Nelson explores the equilibrium between nature, myth, and the human spirit. Uculu is not a battlefield, but a soulful choreography of memory and poise.
